John is a practicing Art Therapist and artist. John has 24 years experience of teaching full-time at second level and has also worked part-time in the Faculty of Education in N.C.A.D. In his role as an assistant principal, John initiated programmes that supported students and families who where experiencing difficulties that inhibited positive integration into mainstream education through coordinating a broader base of more efficient responses from the various child and family support services. Employing and developing the medium of art as a therapeutic tool in the healing process John has been exploring its potential in the areas of mindfulness through creativity, the processing of trauma, addiction and conflict resolution. He is currently facilitating art therapy on a relapse prevention programme. John is course facilitator at the Dublin Art Therapy College.

Adrienne O'Shea

Adrienne has worked in numerous community, medical and educational settings since completing her primary degree in Psychology from National University of Ireland, Maynooth. Her areas of experience include the Homelessness sector & Mental Health (Community), Applied Behaviour Analysis (Autism - Education), Youth & Families at risk (Community sector, TUSLA Child & Family Agency), Palliative Care & Stroke Unit (Pastoral Care: Hospital), DEIS Primary and Secondary Schools, (Education & Mental Health & Art Therapy), Family Resource Centre (Mental Health & Art Therapy) and Medical Art Therapy(General Hospital). Adrienne works with children, adolescents, adults and groups using art therapy. Her special interest is in the application of art therapy with psychological issues involved with chronic illness, a research topic she is passionate to develop. Adrienne employs an integrative approach incorporating the art therapy model whilst drawing upon psychodynamic and humanistic approaches in her client work. Adrienne is a class tutor at the Dublin Art Therapy College.

Noel Dowling
Programme Leader

MA Economics and Cultural Anthropology, BA in Applied Counselling and Addiction Studies, BA (Hons) Counselling and Art Therapy, Dip Art Psychotherapy.
Noel comes from an anthropological background and has a masters in economic and cultural anthropology with an interest in people movement, borders and work practices. Noel works as a team leader with MQI/IPS counselling service and is based in the Mount Joy prison campus. Having worked for a long time in the area of human rights and migrant advocacy, this led Noel to gaining a BA in Applied Counselling and Addiction Studies. Further study in BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and Art Therapy Noel focuses on up-cycling, eco art, phototherapy and with a keen interest in multi cultural orientation practises. Noel is programme leader and class tutor at the Dublin Art Therapy College.

Trish’s background is in working with pre-school children in education. This is where her interest in working therapeutically with both children and adults was stimulated. She completed her initial training in 2004. Her therapeutic approach is from a Humanistic & Integrative perspective in private practice and in a voluntary capacity with adults both individually, couples, adolescents and with children in primary school-based setting. Trish offers both talking and creative therapeutic approaches using Art, Play and Mindfulness grounded in a Person Centred Approach. Trish is a Core-Tutor and Placement Co-ordinator at the Dublin Art Therapy College.

Yvonne is a fully qualified psychotherapist who works with children, adolescents and adults. She is a full-time secondary school teacher and has been involved with the pastoral care and special educational needs requirements of a large mixed secondary school for several years. Her greatest interest and passion is working with adolescents. She possesses a vast range of additional qualifications including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Art Therapy, Certificate in Counselling Children and Adolescents. Helen works with Mental Health Rehabilitation Group and provides one to one Art Psychotherapy consultations. She facilitates Open and Closed Studio practice days and is also a programme tutor at Dublin Art Therapy College. Helen comes from an Art & Design background having worked primarily in Interior Design. Currently employed as the Senior Art Psychotherapist in a private Hospital in Dublin, with a primary focus on the Co-Ordination of the Art Therapy Therapeutic Program, facilitated over 4 Mental Health Units. As part of the Multi-Disciplinary team, Helen is responsible for the promotion and integration of the creative process as an integral therapeutic intervention, through open studio and group sessions. The therapeutic objective is focussing on enabling service users through a person centred, client led, Humanistic approach the benefits and inclusion of the creative process as part of their overall care plan and recovery journey.
