Expressive Arts Therapy as Embodied Knowledge to Address Trauma
with World renowned Author and Art Therapist: Cathy Malchiodi PhD
Creative Brain-Wise and Body-Based Approaches to Treatment
Expressive arts therapy is the only creative form of psychotherapy that uses action-oriented, imaginative, play-based and embodied approaches to reparation and recovery from psychological trauma. It is unique in that it addresses sensory, kinesthetic, affective, perceptual and cognitive components of traumatic stress in ways that help individuals get past language to find meaning through non-verbal communication. This workshop focuses on the sensory, somatic and implicit [non-verbal] nature of the arts and explores the three-part process that forms a foundation for intervention with traumatized individuals. Arts-based approaches are demonstrated to highlight ways that trauma and stress can be addressed with embodied knowledge as the key source of reparation and healing. - Arts-based activities to enhance and deepen empathy, compassion, and interpersonal connection in our patients and ourselves.
- Arts-based approaches to facilitate the body’s natural resources for transformation and healing.
- Experiences in improvisation, dramatic enactment, gesture, bilateral movement, art making, play and imagination to encourage social engagement, stress reduction and imagination as a form of healing.
- How to use a three-part process as the foundation of arts-based treatment and intervention for stress reduction and trauma recovery.

Open Studio
The Open Studio is a space for the exploration of self-expression and creativity.
We offer a space in which you can freely express yourself using art materials or alternatively you can become involved in an open, highly expressive, and extremely positive arts environment where you can work directly with the Studio's Therapist.
Open Studio Dates: 2019:
Saturday 27th April, | Saturday 29th June, Saturday 6th July
Times: 10.00 - 5.30pm
Cost: The cost of each session is €125 for non-course participants
